Swimming is without a doubt an important part of summer! So, where can you enjoy it if you live in Olomouc?

Some people prefer swimming pools and water slides, while others rather choose natural swimming pools or flooded quarries. Browsing “swimming pools around Olomouc”, you will find a countless amount of different options. In the case of swimming pools, you can be sure that you will most likely find them in the same condition as stated on operators’ websites. However, how about the sand quarries and ponds? Is the web site information continuously updated? Are the sources of information trustworthy? Unfortunately, in most cases, the answer is NO! We did some market research and visited several sand quarries, ponds, and flooded quarries for you. Here are some tips for enjoying the summer pools that are suitable for people of any age.

Natural swimming pools in Olomouc and its neighborhood:

Several natural swimming pools can be found directly in Olomouc and the surrounding area. One of the advantages is that you can visit these places easily in the afternoon after work and it is easily accessible by public transport. We also offer tips for slightly more distant swimming pools, which are definitely worth the visit.

KAPRODROM

Kaprodrom offers fun for the whole family. There is a rope center for children, sandpit, and many other attractions. You can also enjoy tasty meals in the restaurant, where fresh fish and other grilled specialties are prepared for you. There are also facilities for fishermen and even if you do not prefer fishing, you can swim, row, swing, play table football, and perform many other activities.

OLOMOUCKÉ PODĚBRADY

Poděbrady natural swimming pool in Olomouc has been a sought-after recreational locality for many years. The grassy shores offer a lot of space for sunbathing and sports activities. There is also a restaurant, a boat rental, as well as more sports equipment, on the site. There is a separate nudist beach, too.

AMERIKA OLOMOUC

“America” in Olomouc consists of several small, flooded gravel pits in the Holice district. They are used for fish farming and sport fishing. One of them is designed also for summer recreation and swimming. You can have a snack at a restaurant on the site, which can be found on Facebook. If you want to fish there, it is necessary to call in advance to 00420 777 310 477.

NÁKLO SAND QUARRY

Another popular summer holiday destination, not only for the inhabitants of Olomouc, is undoubtedly the Náklo sand quarry. You can go there in the afternoon after work, for the whole day on weekends, or even with a caravan even for a week. The beaches are grassy and sandy, so if you choose the sandy ones, you can feel like you are somewhere by the sea. There are several smaller areas with refreshments, toilets, and an offer of water sports. All you need to do is just choose what you like the most.

Attention! If you prefer to visit the shore near Lhota, we will not please you. Miners have moved the excavator to the west shore of the lake this year and they are going to mine gravel there during the whole summer, so you should be careful where you enter the water. The swimming area is bounded by buoys.

LAŠKOV NATURAL BIOTOPE FOR SWIMMING

The natural biotope for swimming in Laškov was created last year and you will find a swimming part and a non-swimming part there, as well as a paddling pool for children. Toilets and refreshments are not missing.

LITOVEL NATURAL SWIMMING POOL

A natural biotope is waiting for visitors also in Litovel. Children and adults can look forward to slides, massage jets, beaded water chairs, diving boards, climbing net, breakwater, and many other attractions. There is a children’s paddling pool, social facilities, buffet, and sports equipment rental in the site, too.

NOVÁ VES – FLOODED QUARRY

You can swim in the beautiful nature in Nová Ves u Litovle. The descent into the water is gradual, so you can visit the place with your children, too. There is a window with refreshments and a small sitting area near the parking lot. You can also use mobile toilets in the area. The pebble beach, which you can find while looking at some ten-year-old photos, is no longer there, but this place is definitely worth a visit.

DOLNÍ ŽLEB

The area around the pond in Dolní Žleb near Šternberk underwent a reconstruction and the place has become a beautiful recreational area, which not only encourages its visitors to swim and sunbathe, but you will also find outdoor fitness machines and a public fireplace there. If you do not bring your own sausages or something good to roast, you can visit a small buffet. There is also a trampoline for children and mobile toilets on the site.

SLEZSKÁ HARTA

The Slezská Harta dam on the Moravice river offers several opportunities, how you can actively spend the summer tourist season. You can try not only swimming, but also boating, fishing, yachting, or windsurfing.

VÝKLEKY QUARRY

The flooded quarry in the village of Výkleky, which is located near Olomouc and Přerov, belongs to the most sought-after locations during the summer. The water is clear and there is enough space where you can unfold your blanket and sunbathe. There is a paid parking lot not far from the quarry. The fee is 30 CZK.

JADRAN

The natural swimming pool Jadran is located near Lipník nad Bečvou. The recreational area is popular especially with cyclists since the Bečva cycle path crosses this place. You will find a large grassy beach, several buffets, a children’s playground, and toilets there. In addition to bicycle stands, there is also a small parking lot for several cars on the site.

OLŠOVEC QUARRY

Olšovec quarry is located about eight kilometers from the town of Hranice in the direction of Potštát. It is a flooded slate quarry with crystal clear water. You can comfortably park in the parking lot at the quarry and in its immediate vicinity, there is also a restaurant where you can have a snack. Nature here is beautiful, but we recommend some firmer shoes for descending into the water. Another option is to have a lot of patience and be careful about where you step. You can easily slip there due to slate fragments and a steeper slope. Therefore, we would not recommend a visit with smaller children.

KUROVICE QUARRY

Kurovice quarry is a natural sight, which can be found near Tlumačov. For many years, the entrance to the quarry was forbidden. Currently, you can enjoy swimming there for a fee of 100 CZK. You cannot get directly to the quarry by car because motor vehicles are not allowed on the road. However, you can park your car in the Kurovice village and then walk to the quarry.

PLUMLOV DAM AND PODHRADSKÝ POND

You will find the Plumlov dam near Prostějov. Plumlov castle rises majestically above the dam. The dam and the adjacent Podhradský pond attract many tourists. What is more, various social, sports, and cultural events often take place on the site. However, at the end of the summer season, the water quality in the dam regularly deteriorates, which is why we recommend monitoring of the current water quality classification.

If you are not a fan of natural swimming pools, or you have to pay attention to little non-swimmers or lovers of water attractions and water slides, then we have some tips for you. In all the following areas, a car park, changing rooms, and refreshments are guaranteed.

AQUAPARK OLOMOUC

The outdoor area of the Olomouc Aquapark offers a swimming pool with three swimming lanes, a water wall, and spouts. There is also a grassy recreation area, a children’s playground with a climbing wall and a rope pyramid, and a beach volleyball court. Popular attractions include water slides.

OLOMOUC SWIMMING STADIUM

The outdoor area of the swimming stadium offers a large outdoor pool, pool loungers, and grassy areas for recreation and sunbathing, as well as an outdoor children’s paddling pool with attractions and a beach volleyball court. The outdoor area is accessible via the lobby of the indoor pool, or via the summer box office. The facilities consist of changing rooms, toilets, and a buffet.

BOHUŇOVICE HEALTH CENTER

The Bohuňovice Health Center offers a lot of fun and activities for the whole family. You can find a water zone with a swimming and relaxation pool, hydromassage hot tub, counter-current, steam sauna, fitness center, solarium, and massages there. There is also a children’s pool with attractions and a 100-meter long water slide. The water area is only indoor, but during the summer months, you use pool loungers on the terrace to sunbathe.

BĚLKOVICE-LAŠŤANY SWIMMING POOL

Near Olomouc, there is located the village of Bělkovice-Lašťany, which attracts visitors to an outdoor area with a swimming pool and children’s pool. You have the possibility of renting pool loungers on the site. There are also located social facilities and refreshments. Visitors can use the multi-purpose court and tennis court, too.

ŠTERNBERK SWIMMING POOL

The swimming pool in Šternberk offers swimming lanes, a children’s paddling pool, water slides, a children’s playground, and a multi-purpose playground with an artificial surface. There is also a snack bar and restaurant in operation, as well as social facilities.

UNIČOV SWIMMING POOL

The Uničov public swimming pool attracts young and old for a lot of fun. You will find separate swimming and non-swimming areas there, a paddling pool, water slides, a buffet with outdoor seating, table tennis, a sports court, a basketball hoop, skittles, and a children’s playground with a carousel and swings, as well as a sandpit and a climbing frame.
