Summer is a great time to get off our couch to enjoy an open-air movie session during a refreshing evening. You can find several open-air cinemas screening at various places throughout the city of Brno. Pick the film genre that suits you best from a vast selection: Comedy, romance, action, horror, adventure, fantasy, or documentary. And no need to speak Czech to go! Spend an unforgettable evening alone or with your partner or friends in one of the fabulous open-air cinemas in the city.
Summer cinemas in Brno:
If the Špilberk castle is a must to visit during the day in Brno, it also has a lot to offer after nightfall. All summer long, the Špilberk castle is screening films under the stars in Brno. Three times a week – Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday – you can sit back and enjoy a good movie, food, and drinks with friends. The screenings start at 21:30 in July and 21:00 in August. The tickets cost 100 CZK (80 CZK for students) and are available at goout.net, or directly at the entrance.
The Garden of the Löw-Beer Villa is part of the inner blocks of the residential neighborhood Černá Pole across the street from the park Lužánky. The garden is open to the public and is connected to the Tugendhat Villa garden. It is a lovely place to relax by the fountain during the summer, organize picnics, or play with your children on the small playground. And every Friday evening you can enjoy nice art films, summer blockbusters, and classics under starry nights. Screenings take place every Friday at 21:30 in July and 21:00 in August. The tickets cost 100 CZK and are available at letnikinoart.cz.
The courtyard of the Governor’s Palace
Scala University Cinema will be screening films in cooperation with the Moravian Gallery under the open sky in the unique space of the Governor’s Palace courtyard all summer long. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the box office or 30 minutes before the beginning of the screening at the venue. The projections will take place from the 1st July to the 31 August.
The Courtyard at the Brno-střed town hall also screens movies during the summer. A buffet will be available. The tickets cost 100 CZK and are always sold half an hour before the projection starts. The projections start at 21:30 in July and 21:00 in August.
The Brno Observatory and Planetarium is located in Kravi Hora. Different sci-fi movies are screening every night for free until 18 July. The park is easily accessible from the center of Brno through public transportation (tram no4).

Make sure you are aware of the rules and recommendations for the current COVID-19 restrictions. All spectators need to meet one of those conditions currently:
- prove a negative RT-PCR test not exceeding 7 days old
- prove a negative POC (so-called antigen) test up to 72 hours old (can be proved by the employer’s confirmation of the self-test or affidavit)
- prove the occurrence of laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 disease in the period not longer than 180 days before the day of the event
- COVID-19 vaccination, with at least 14 days from the last vaccine dose (second for two-dose vaccines, first for single-dose vaccines)
You will also be required to wear a respirator at all times without an exhalation valve of min. class FFP2 (KN95 / N95).
