#LifeInCzechia Remote online work has been very popular since 2020, and more expats are exploring this opportunity. That’s why the Czech Republic created the Digital Nomad Program for highly skilled IT and marketing workers. However, some new rules are starting in 2025. What is it about? Who Is A Digital Nomad?
- An employee of a foreign-based company who will work remotely within the territory of the Czech Republic, using telecommunication means. In this case, the foreign worker remains under the employment contract of their foreign company and does not enter into an employment relationship within the Czech Republic.
- A freelancer or self-employed individual (in Czech: OSVČ), meaning a foreigner who currently holds or will acquire a Czech trade license.
NOTE: Immediate family members of digital nomads may be included in the program. This includes spouses, registered partners, and dependent children (minor or adult) of the foreign worker or their spouse/partner if they are simultaneously applying for a residence permit.
Origin of Digital Nomads
The program is open for citizens from:
- Australia,
- Brazil,
- Canada,
- Israel,
- Japan,
- Republic of Korea,
- Mexico,
- New Zealand,
- Singapore,
- United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland,
- United States of America and
- Taiwan
Conditions Of The Program
To apply for the Digital Nomad Visa, you need to submit an application.
NOTE: If you have been a holder of a valid visa for a stay exceeding 90 days or a long-term residence permit issued by the Czech Republic in the previous 1 year, you CANNOT apply for the Digital Nomad Program.
Requirements For The Application
Required documents include a criminal record, proof of purpose of stay, proof of accommodation, proof of financial means, etc.
All documents must be submitted in the original or a notarised copy and must not be older than 180 days, (except for travel documents and civil registry documents).
Benefits Of The Program
Eligible participants accepted into the Program are guaranteed:
- the possibility of applying for a long-term visa for either business purposes (self-employed) or “other” (employee of a foreign company with the possibility of remote work) at the Czech Embassy abroad, including their immediate family members
- processing the application for a residence permit within 45 days of its submission.
News In The Program
Starting in 2025, the Digital Nomad Program has undergone several changes:
- Citizens from Brazil, Mexico, and Singapore can now apply for the program.
- The program is now open for marketing specialists as well (NOTE: you have to have a marketing diploma from a higher vocational school or higher)
- This program is not suitable for applicants who have been holders of long-term residence permits for the previous 1 year
