How to Get A Long-Term Residence Permit After Graduation?

What Is It?

A long-term residence permit to seek employment or start a business is available for third-country citizens who completed their studies in a study program at a Czech university OR scientific research in the Czech Republic and wish to seek employment or start a business.

 

Eligibility

If you want to apply for a long-term residence permit for the purpose of seeking employment or starting a business, you need to:

 

  • have a long-term residence permit for the purpose of studies and you have completed a university-accredited study program, OR
  • have a long-term residence permit for the purpose of scientific research and you have completed this research.

 

In case you have a long-term visa, you cannot apply for this type of residence permit.

 

Application

To apply, you need to fill out the application in person at one of the Ministry of the Interior offices. The application must be filed before the end of the validity of your current residence permit and no later than on the last day of its validity. While processing your application, you’re staying legally in the Czech Republic.

 

The administrative fee is CZK 2,500 in the form of stamps. The Ministry has 60 days to process your application.

 

Validity Period

The permit is valid for 9 months only. There is no possibility of prolonging the permit, if you don’t find a job.

 

Benefits

As a holder of this long-term residence permit:

 

  • you can leave and re-enter the Czech Republic repeatedly and travel within the Schengen Area without a visa,
  • you have free access to the labor market and you can work, do business, seek employment, or start a business without limitations,
  • you can apply for a long-term residence permit for the purpose of doing business exempt from the requirement of the previous 5 years of residence in the Czech Republic
