Jessica from Italy: I Love the Fact that Brno is Very Multicultural

Working in the Czech Republic can give a whole range of possibilities: starting from an entertaining job in a pleasant working atmosphere and ending with relatively low cost of living, dynamic environment and lush nature. Jessica from Italy sure knows that: she has been working for Lufthansa InTouch Brno for two years and couldn’t be happier about her decision of moving to Brno.

Jessica, tell us, do you like living in the Czech Republic?

Surprisingly, yes, I have to admit! I think it’s mainly because Brno is quite different from Italy: it’s calm, quiet and peaceful and I’m pretty much used to calmness by now. Italy could be very loud sometimes, you know… Also, I love the fact that Brno is a multicultural city which is obviously a wonderful thing.

That’s so lovely to hear! What’s your favourite thing about Brno?

At first time, Brno could be quite deceiving: it seems as a small city but as time goes on, you realise that you can find literally everything here. There’re so many things to do: if you’re into nature, you can travel to lakes, forests, zoo or stay partying in the city centre. Do you know what I also like? It’s cinema: whenever you go to cinema in Italy, there’s always a queue, but in Brno it’s well-structured and organised, you don’t have this kind of problem at all.

That’s interesting! If there was one thing you could change in Brno, what would it be?

Rent is quite high, and honestly, I wasn’t expecting this. In Italy, it’s not as high as here, but I can understand why. Although at the same time, it could be challenging for expats, foreign students and us.

Yes, that’s true. As an Italian, you must be very picky at your food choices. Tell us, what’s your favourite place to eat in Brno?

Definitely La Patas! Even though it’s not located in the city centre, it’s definitely worth visiting. We often go there with colleagues.

Thank you for your tip! How’s your Czech? Do you find the Czech language difficult?

I know just the basics and it’s sufficient. And yes, I find it very difficult! Unfortunately, I don’t speak any Slavic language and for me it’s quite challenging to learn Czech. Though after a while you can actually make out what Czechs are speaking about and even understand something.

Tell us more about your job. Did you find it easily or you encountered some difficulties?

I found it quite easy! I found it on the internet and it immediately caught my eye. I always wanted to work abroad, and after working in Greece, I found this opportunity and look! Here I am 🙂

Wow! Seems like you satisfied with you job. What’s good about working in Lufthansa InTouch Brno?

Yes, I am satisfied! Lufthansa InTouch Brno gives you an opportunity to be better at what you do: they trained me and I acquired a lot of useful skills. They formed me and I became whom I am now: a trainer, which means that I get to train other team members and share my experience with them!

Impressive! And what’s the best thing about working in Lufthansa InTouch Brno?

For me it’s multiculturality. I love the fact we’re united, we’re all together: thanks to Lufthansa InTouch Brno I know lots of people from literally everywhere! A big plus is that we have a cosy family atmosphere; we can work in one place and have fun in another. I appreciate it very much.

Any unusual situation happened at your workplace?

Ha-ha, a lot! I’ll tell you about this: for example, once we had a Halloween market, where there were tombs, graveyards, pumpkin sweets and other great and scary stuff. In summer, we had parties with frappes and ice tea, and it’s always a nice and magical environment for all of us.

Tell us more about yourself! What do you do in your free time?

I must admit, I’m a very lazy person! I like reading, watching movies and, basically, doing more indoors stuff. When it’s summer though, I go outside more and spend time with my friends.

Do you miss your home country?

I love living abroad, but sometimes I miss family, food and Italian vibes. I love to explore, and even when I go to Italy, I try to find new places to visit. For example, in November I’ll go to Florence and I’m very much looking forward to it!

That’s so wonderful! What about your future in Brno? Do you plan to stay here for a long time?

For now, yeah, I’ll stay here for a while, I like being a trainer here in Lufthansa InTouch Brno. But I have a soul of a wanderer, so I’m already planning my next step – Germany.

Thank you, Jessica! I wish all the best and hope you’ll like Germany as much as Brno! Last thing: how would you describe your life in three words?

Wanderer – as I mentioned before, lucky – I’m extremely lucky to live my life, and last one is full. My life is full of love and happiness.
