Plans for the Most Attractive and Liveliest Society Venue in Olomouc

Do you live in Olomouc? We have exciting news for you! If all plans work and deadlines are met, you could go to farmer markets, a concert, or a theatrical performance in the Olomouc waterfront in about two years. Embankment space will offer a whole scale of activities. This is an entirely new space (on the right bank of the river – downstream), which is in construction right now between the bridge on Komenského Street (near Bristol) and the end of Blahoslavova Street (the playground at B. Václavek’s university dormitories).

What should the waterfront look like when you come there in a year or two?

The project visualizes two right-bank floors with a length of 335 meters – the upper one is about five meters wide. This one is designated as a path for pedestrians and cyclists. There are also two vantage points to the river with drinking fountains and seating.

The lower floor will be over ten meters wide. Cyclists or wheelchairs can go down on the wide ramp from Bristol and the university dormitories. There will be three stairs for pedestrians  – on the corner of Šmeralova and Blahoslavova streets, by the bridge on Masarykova třída, and by the evangelical church. The whole lower part will be paved, and the walls will be fitted with sandstone slabs. At night, the new waterfront will be illuminated. There will be mooring rings for small boats on the shore, which cannot be reached directly to the water. Within two years, we could also see the Ololodě again from the waterfront, which now carries those interested a few kilometers downstream in Nové Sady.

What should the waterfront look like when you come there in a year or two?

The Olomouc atelier’s vision would be built on the construction of the waterfront just above the bridge near Bristol. “It is a key place where the historic core of the city meets the connection to the southern part of Olomouc, relaxing zones in the north and bike paths to cities upstream of the Morava River,” states the author and architect Miroslav Pospíšil. According to him, the bar on pontoons can be disassembled and taken away within a few hours in the event of a threatening flood. If we ever sit in this exciting restaurant, there is the music of the future for now. It is up to the Bristol landlord to start the project and several authorities to allow it.
