Cejl District: Better Rental Prices & Developers’ New Discovery

If you have been in Brno for at least a couple days, you must have heard about Cejl. This area is located just a stone thrown away from the historic city, among the Svitava river. It used to be the heart of textile factories and home to their employees who took their part in an important change of Brno into an industrial city. Nowadays, Cejl is one of the crucial streets in Brno, where the town hall offers cheaper flats for people. The area’s history is still following it mercilessly, though. Is it a district suitable for living for its location and better rental prices?

Why is Life in the City Centre Exciting?

Last week, I was out with my friends. When we decided to go home, it was getting pretty late, so my friends were thinking about which night bus to take. I walked them to the bus station, and they asked me which night bus I am taking. I responded by saying: “None, I am walking back home.” This response got me a lot of weirded-out looks.

Coronavirus in Czechia: Borders With the Neighboring Countries Reopening

As life is slowly returning to normal after the global lockdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, many European countries have already started relaxing the restrictions imposed on traveling, and together with this, they are also gradually reopening their borders. Since the Central European countries have been doing especially well during the pandemic, they are among the first countries to do so.

So where can you travel from the Czech Republic and what countries can let their citizens travel to Czechia?

Post-Quarantine: Better Days Are Yet to Come & Trips to Nature

My internship in the Czech Republic didn’t turn out to be quite close to what I’d expected when I was applying last year. I was looking forward to taking advantage of living in central Europe and traveling around. But who could predict such an outcome either way? A pandemic? Really? Are these the 90s or something?

Two months. Two months in complete lockdown, in a state of an emergency, with borders closed, masks, disinfectants, one-usage gloves, hospitalizations, even deaths, and many more repercussions. But every storm subsides. This quarantine did too. Patience was the key to it all. Patience, positivity, and a well-structured routine to get through your day.

No Orientation Skills, No Problem. Even in a Foreign Country

If you need to know one thing about me, that is, I have zero orientation skills. None. And that’s a fact. Maybe I even like it that way since every day is kind of a mystery. You never know where I might end up at. It might be a complete disaster or an awesome story to tell. For example, I’m living for a while now as an expat in the Czech city of Brno and I still keep getting lost all the time.

A Journey through Portuguese Cuisine

Portugal, a small country bordering the Atlantic Ocean, over the almost ten centuries of history, has created an extensive gastronomic culture. With the Atlantic and Mediterranean influences as a result of the great navigations, the Portuguese cuisine presents a wide variety that mirrors the landscape, cultural heritage and resources available in each region.

A German Adventure: Geierlay Suspension Bridge

Do you know the motto “seize the day”? Well, since last year that’s a rule I promised myself to live by, even when the comfort of everyday life is overwhelming. And trust me, I am so glad I did because otherwise, I wouldn’t be able to sit down and narrate to you my latest adventures. So please, take a seat and let’s begin!

A Series of Unfortunate Events when Traveling: Part 3, Swimming with the Stars

The second week of the voluntary program in Croatia, after our days off and our trip to Split and Sibenik, Mohammed, our team-leader, wanted to have another football match so bad that we decided to do him the favor and join.
So after the usual all-together dinner at the football field, we gathered around and divided ourselves into two teams.
The game seemed promising, even though fewer people decided to play this time. We were still having fun, trying to hit the ball and not our opponents’ feet since most of us had no idea what we were doing.

Grab & Go: Brno Cafés During the State of Emergency

Since the whole Czech Republic had to shift towards the position of avoiding human contact, it was especially difficult to give up on our favorite pleasures such as having a cup of coffee in our favorite cafes… However, Brno cafés are still operating doing their best to ensure the city stays caffeinated:) Many of them have created ways to stay afloat during this crisis. Read this article to learn which ones will save you from your coffee deficiency!

A Series of Unfortunate Events when Traveling: Part 1, Rakija

As the title suggests, I’m here to describe to you some unfortunate yet one-of-a-kind snapshots to brighten up your day, while you’re on the requested quarantine.

A long time ago (last October), when borders were open and epidemics were bed-time stories narrated by grandmas, my friend Maria and I (nowadays we prefer to be called Mareya’s duo but that’s another story) decided to go on an adventure in Croatia for two weeks. It was a voluntary program in a shipyard and one of my most beloved memories so far.
