Driving License and Driving School Access

EU citizens who register in Czechia have the benefit of easily enrolling in driving school. This registration simplifies the process of obtaining a Czech driving license. It can be very convenient for you kids or those who are planning to live long-term in the country.

 

Parking Permits in Residential Zones

In cities like Pilsen, registered EU residents can obtain a parking permit for residential areas, a benefit that is not always available to non-registered individuals. This advantage is particularly valuable in dense urban areas where parking is limited or strictly regulated.

 

Simplified Tracking for Permanent Residency Applications

Registering also makes it easier to track how long a person has stayed in the Czech Republic, which can be especially helpful when applying for permanent residency. It simplifies both the paperwork and the approval process.

A new law is being prepared that will make temporary registration a mandatory process for all EU citizens living in the Czech Republic. This certificate confirms your right to stay in the country temporarily and is issued by the Czech authorities once you meet the requirements.

Who Needs the Certificate of Registration?

The registration is recommended for:

  • EU citizens who plan to reside in the Czech Republic for longer than 90 days.
  • Family members of EU citizens, including spouses, children, and dependent relatives, even if they are not EU nationals themselves.

NOTE: The registration is not obligatory, but you can benefit from it.

 

Requirements for the Certificate of Registration

To obtain the certificate of registration, you must meet certain criteria and provide specific documentation:

  • Proof of Identity – You will need a valid passport or an identity card.
  • Health InsuranceYou must demonstrate that you have valid health insurance coverage in the Czech Republic. (not necessary if the purpose of your stay is employment, entrepreneurship, or other work-related activity)
  • Proof of AccommodationA document confirming where you are living in the Czech Republic, such as a rental agreement or a property ownership document
  • 1 picture

Family members of an EU citizen will need all the documents mentioned above, along with proof of their family relationship.

 

Process of the Application 

Send your completed application with the required documents to the official contacts of the Ministry of the Interior:

  • By email with a qualified electronic signature to posta@mv.gov.cz (all attachments must be in the authorized conversion format, submitted via the MV ČR filing office), 
  • Via data box (ID: 6bnaawp)
  • or in person at the Department of Asylum and Migration Policy

Once issued, the certificate is valid for 10 years.
