First of all – what is yoga?
Yoga is an ancient system of physical, mental and spiritual practice from South Asia. It helps improve balance, strengthen your body and makes you more flexible.
There are 5 different basic types of yoga – hatha, vinyasa, ashtanga, hot yoga and lyengar. Each type is a bit different, and you can choose yours based on your goal. For example, to have a more meditative experience, try out ashtanga.
There are also different levels of how difficult the exercises are – from the simplest that literally everyone can do to the hard ones (such as power yoga), for which you need some experience and a lot of strength.
Benefits of yoga
Yoga offers many benefits, including the following:
- Stretching your muscles – yoga includes slow movements which help stretch your whole body. If you do yoga on regular basis, it leads to improved flexibility, which is an amazing benefit both for young and old people.
- Relaxing your mind – the core benefit of yoga is that you will clear your mind after a long day (or it will help you to find your balance before the start of a new one), mainly because it is directly connected to breath control, which leads to slowing down the trail of thoughts and practicing mindfulness
- Increasing strength – as mentioned before, there are different types of yoga, and each level reached equals a new level of strength for your body. Be aware that it is not possible to start with power yoga right at the beginning. You start with simpler exercises and afterwards work your way through to the desired goal.
- Relieving stress patterns – yoga helps you to calm down and recentre your attention. After few yoga sessions, you can say goodbye to extreme stress that you might be experiencing even on daily basis!
