Do you live in an apartment in Pilsen and feel like escaping into nature on the weekend, getting active, or meeting friends for a barbecue? We’ve got some tips on where to go when the weather’s nice and you don’t feel like staying indoors. In one of our previous article we presented you outdoor fitness spots. So, now it’s time for leisure time activities!
Božkovský ostrov – Božkov Island
Božkov Island is located on the Úslava River between the districts of Koterov and Božkov. It is easilly accessible with the trolleybus number 12.
This natural island offers visitors a variety of ways to spend their time. You can take a walk on the unpaved paths and sit on a bench while your children play on the playground or splash around in the river’s side channel. You can gather your friends and play football on the lawn or in the gym. Are you not a fan of collective sports? No problem, you can skate around the inline track for hours and hours.
Lobezský park
Lobezský Park isn’t far from Božkov Island and is conveniently located near the city centre and the Doubravka district. Recently revitalized, this park offers a peaceful escape filled with lush greenery, ornamental trees, and charming ponds. It’s a great place to go for a walk, enjoy a picnic, or play games and sports with your children.
Bolevecké rybníky – Bolevec Ponds
The Bolevec Ponds are a large system of artificial lakes that serve not only for water retention, but also as a popular recreational area for Pilsen residents. The surrounding area offers miles of paved trails perfect for walking, running, or cycling.
Too hot for sports? No problem — take a dip in the water or let your children splash around in the shallow areas of the pond. Don’t have kids and just want to enjoy a relaxing evening with friends and maybe barbecue something? You’re in luck — there are public fire pits by the ponds where grilling is allowed.
New this year: red coal containers have been placed near the fire pits. Visitors are encouraged to sprinkle hot coals into them to help prevent wildfires.
Near Třemošenský Pond, at the final stop of tram line 1, you’ll find a brand-new attraction: the Plaská Pumptrack. This fun and dynamic circuit is perfect for bikes, skateboards, scooters, or inline skates.
Not in the mood for riding? No worries — just a short distance away is a climbing wall, offering another great way to stay active outdoors.
Swimming in Malesice
Malesice is a small village that’s officially part of the city of Pilsen. It’s located to the west of the city and can be easily reached by trolleybus number 11.
This year, the local water reservoir underwent a full reconstruction and has recently reopened to the public. Not only the reservoir itself, but also the sanitary facilities and recreational features have been repaired or newly added. It’s a great place to spend a sunny afternoon — you can even see an Archimedes screw in action!
Entry is free, but keep in mind that swimming is at your own risk. Also, free movement of dogs is not allowed in the area.
Škodaland
Škodaland is probably the most well-known spot in Pilsen where you can enjoy a wide variety of sports and activities. Try your hand at mini golf, inline skating, football, volleyball, basketball, foot tennis, or handball. There’s also a designated workout area — including one tailored for seniors.
Children will love the air trampoline and the large playground, and they can even learn the basics of road safety at the on-site traffic playground.
On hot days, a refreshing swim in the small lake or the nearby dam is a great way to cool off.
Interested in one of the sports fields and want to make sure it’s available? Don’t forget to make a reservation
