Due to record daily numbers of new COVID-19 cases, the Czech government has extended the duration of the current restrictions until January 22. It is the same date when the state of emergency should supposedly end as well. Originally, the countermeasures should have been in place until January 10.

Coronavirus in Czechia: More COVID-19 Restrictions to Be Loosened on Thursday
On Thursday, December 3 more of the COVID-19 restrictions will be released in accordance with the PES system as decided by the Czech government on Sunday, November 29. Possibly the biggest changes relate to opening stores and restaurants, though the limit on the number of people at stores remains in place. At the same time, the Minister of Health suggested another extension of the state of emergency.
Coronavirus in Czechia: State of Emergency Extended until December 12
The Czech government decided to extend the state of emergency up until December 12. The state of emergency was already extended on October 30 until November 20 to continue reducing the rate at which COVID-19 is spreading. At the same time, the government approved releasing some of the previously introduced restrictions.
Coronavirus in Czechia: Limits on the Number of People in Stores
From Wednesday, November 18, the government introduced a limit on the number of people present in stores at the same time to further decrease the number of new COVID-19 cases. This was decided by the government on Monday, November 16, after photos of stores like Lidl being packed with people started circulating on social media. At the same time, opening hours of stores were extended to 9:00 PM so everyone would be able to do their grocery shopping.

On October 30, the Czech government extended the state of emergency up until November 20. The state of emergency was approved on October 5 because of the worsening coronavirus epidemic in the Czech Republic and was originally supposed to be in effect for 30 days. Two governmental parties – ANO and ČSSD – proposed extension of the state of emergency until December 3 but this motion was not passed.
Ban on Free Movement: Restriction on Entry to Czech Republic Due to Lockdown
The Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the restriction on the entry of expats to Czechia if they have no essential reason to enter the country. As they explained, this is a result of the crisis measures issued by the government. As of October 21, it is not possible to travel to the Czech Republic for the purpose of tourism or visiting friends.

On Monday, October 5, a state of emergency will come into force. The state of emergency was declared on September 30 by the Czech government and together with that, new restrictions will be introduced, but as announced by the Minister of Health, Roman Prymula, they won’t include the closing of borders. He, however, admitted that other countries may impose restrictions on travelling from and to the Czech Republic.

On September 18, the number of people newly infected with coronavirus already exceeded 3 000 new cases per day. The Czech government has been recently reintroducing some countermeasures as a response to the alarming spread of the virus. There is a possibility that even more restrictive countermeasures will be put in place in the near future. Besides that, several countries marked the Czech Republic as a non-safe country.
Coronavirus: EU Citizens Are Now Allowed to Return to Czechia with No Residence Permit
The Czech government is gradually releasing some restrictions which were introduced in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. As announced by the Ministry of Interior, EU citizens can again return to the Czech Republic without a temporary or permanent residence certificate, starting from Wednesday, April 22.
