We’ve tried to find out which type of exercise you can use the gyms for and where exactly outdoor gyms can be found in Prague.
What is street workout?
Sport activity known as street workout has just emerged recently in the Czech Republic. Street workout is the kind of exercise that is often described as calisthenics. The main characteristics are that it is practiced outside and is based on the exercises with the body’s own weight. Among the most basic exercises in calisthenics there are pull-ups, push-ups, squats and dips. It’s important not to underestimate warm up before workout. You can try skipping or stretching, stretching is also a must after training.
Basic exercises
- Pull-ups
An overhead bar is grasped using a shoulder-width grip. You lift the body up, chin level with the bar, and keeping the back straight throughout. The bar remains in front of you at all times. You then slowly return to starting position. This primarily trains upper back muscles, as well as the forearms.
- Dips
Dips are done between parallel bars or facing either direction of trapezoid bars. Feet are crossed with either foot in front and the body is lowered until the elbows are in line with the shoulders. You then push yourself up until the arms are fully extended, but without locking the elbows. Dips focus primarily on the chest and triceps muscles.
- Push-ups
Performed face down on the floor, palms against floor under the shoulders, toes curled upwards against the floor. Chest, shoulders, and triceps are trained with this exercise.
- Squats
Standing with feet shoulder width apart, you squat down as far as possible, bringing the arms forward parallel to the floor. Squats train the quadriceps, hamstrings, and calves.
