Suicide affects all of us. We all know someone who has taken their own life, whether it be a close colleague, friend, or even a family member. It can be a devastating event for the people left behind, and often times, family members or other friends around the person become depressed themselves. But how can we keep pushing forward after our loved ones have passed on? What can we do to remember them?
NoSuicidePrague invites you to the fourth annual International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day. Cheryl Drabova provides more information: “It is at this time of year that the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention‘s holds its International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day event. This is the fourth in a row that the Czech Republic will be participating. It is the one day a year when people affected by suicide loss gather around the world at events in their local communities to find comfort and gain understanding as they share stories of healing and hope.
This year’s gathering will include a screening of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s powerful new documentary, “The Journey.” Event Organizer and Manager of Prague Against Suicide, Gail Whitmore will lead the informal workshop offering participants the opportunity to process the video, share their experiences and memories, talk about the person/people they’ve lost and examine their feelings address questions they may have such as:
Why did this happen? How do I cope?
For many loss survivors, attending a Survivor Day event is the first time they realize they are not alone. Just hearing the stories—from people at all stages of healing—can be helpful. The gathering also provides participants with a chance to share their own stories with those who understand firsthand the challenges of living in the aftermath of a suicide loss.
In the past there has been much laughter and lot more gaiety than one would expect from an afternoon discussing suicide! ITINERARY FOR PROGRAM:
