Brnoexpats.cz and Foreigners.cz Monthly Meet Up!

On the final Thursday of each month Brnoexpats.cz and Foreigners.cz organize a monthly ‘Meet Up!’

What are the monthly Meet Ups?

The Meet Up’s are when a group of (70-100) expats in Brno come together for drinks, something to eat, and to get connected. The crowd is incredibly diverse with people from all around the world, of all ages, occupations, and personality types.

The location changes from month to month, this is a great way to discover new restaurants/pubs in Brno, while meeting new people, getting reacquainted with familiar faces, or meeting up with friends.

September’s Meet Up!

This Meet Up was at Pivni Opice on September 27th, the day Czech authorities lifted the ban of selling of alcohol with more than 20%, so that was something to celebrate with new friends. People started showing up fashionably late, and they kept coming all night, more than 90 people showed!

There were people new to Brno, and experienced expats, they were from France, Romania, England, Poland, USA, Israel, Denmark, even some Czechs and more. And they were in Brno for many different reasons: couchsurfing.org, IBM workers, students, mathematicians, teachers, etc..

That is why the Meet Up is such a great place to network and get connected with the ‘local’ international community, even if you are just in Brno for a few nights. It’s the perfect way to make new friends and to learn from each other’s experiences and stories.

Everybody was open, welcoming, and kind, exactly the qualities you are looking for in internationals and new friends. It is fascinating to learn how people from all around the world, with perhaps many distinctive differences, have met up in one city, the place we all indefinitely share in common, and that is enough for us to come together and enjoy one another’s company.

The Next Meet Up!

As this was my first Meet Up, I didn’t know exactly what to expect, but the Meet Up exceeded any expectations I had. I met amazing people with fascinating stories, ate some delicious food, and got to spend quality time with the Foreigners.cz team.

I am looking forward to the next Meet Up on October 25th, to meet new expats, have more laughs with the people I have been fortunate enough to meet, and to see what unexpected things are sure to happen.
