PR & Marketing Internship at Foreigners – from the Intern’s Point of View

I do not like to repeat what has been said already but I think it is appropriate to introduce myself. My name is Hana and I am studying in Denmark. I am a Czech citizen, but I needed a change, so I decided to move to another country, where I had never been before, to study.

There are already many videos, articles and reviews, that can tell you a lot about Foreigners but not about the position of the PR & Marketing Intern which I was working at, specifically in the Prague office, for 4 months. I would like to write about it, because I think it could help other potential intern candidates with their decision. And it could also help young adults with their future decisions in life.

The selection procedure/tips

Write an authentic cover letter! Be original, why should they pick you among the others?

In this part, you need to be aware of your strengths, that are relevant to the position. I am currently studying Service, Hospitality and Tourism Management and that has almost nothing in common with PR & Marketing, almost. However, it turned out to be my “dream position”. Do you know why? Because when I started my university studies, I still had no idea what I wanted to do in life. What do I enjoy so much, that it could be my full-time job (5 days a week)?

When I saw the ad about this PR Intern position it hit me. I love recording videos, taking pictures, editing and then sharing it with the world and no, I am not talking just about selfies and TikToks. I wasn’t realizing that my Instagram is full of small articles about my experiences, videos from trips with my friends that taught me how editing works, taking care of my own social media, moving to another country because of the love I had/have for English and traveling … all of this, was so natural for me, that I had to think real hard to be able to say: “I have an experience in this field, I am qualified to do this.” But most importantly, I want to do it because I love it.

So now, I am asking you. What do you do in your free time? Do you love the subject you study? Is there something you are doing every day or very often and you are really punctual about it? Or something that gets you easily upset? Maybe you care about it enough to make a living out of it.

In Foreigners, you can get to know the company’s spirit thanks to their 3 visions: Life full of possibilities, Understand different and Sweet home, sweeter abroad. They have Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, website, blog, LinkedIn etc. so that gives you a great opportunity to get to know them and be prepared for an interview.

The team

I am living by the quote “You are who you surround yourself with.” It basically means that your friends have most likely the same values and habits as you do. You are always choosing the people you let into your life (when we do not speak about family). Don’t make poor decisions!

This is something that Foreigners can give you. An amazing experience with smart, kind, effective and active people, who I actually became friends with. The team is filled with mostly young but hard-working people. It is refreshing. Truly.

I also like to say that when you are surrounded with good people, it doesn’t really matter what job/tasks you must do. I was working as a maid in a hotel at the beginning of my studies in Denmark (for about a year). Someone would say that it is one of the worst jobs. The job itself was hard and unpleasant, but I met so many great people! I would be working and laughing the whole shift, so I didn’t even mind the fact I am cleaning a toilet seat.

Do not get me wrong, I would not stay in the hotel as a maid for the rest of my life just for the people. I want to have a career. But this shows how you can find positivity in any situation (cleaning toilets). That is important in any job, relationship or life situation. Do not make your life miserable just because it is not your best day or week. Every small mistake or difficulty leads you to something better.

If you are interested in working with social media, organizing events, multitasking and learning something new almost every day, this is an internship for you! I learned so much here! And I am not saying all this just because I have to. It was actually my idea to write this article, so I did, I also had an idea to hold music Meetup event in Prague, so I did… You have many things you need to take care of every day but when you do take it responsibly, you can think out of the box and bring something new into the company.

It helped me in my personal life as well. I was struggling with multitasking and organizing my time the right way. I also had trouble sleeping. My supervisor Lucka made me do bubbles where I divided my time into percentages. I also planned different activities for each day… what activities should I prioritize each day? E.g. Monday planing Facebook posts for the week and Tuesday, making videos about services. I included also my personal life and suddenly, there was enough time for everything.

Overall, I have to say, I couldn’t be happier with this internship. It was everything and more. Hopefully I’ll work for Foreigners after my studies. We will see cause Life is full of possibilities, right? 🙂

Thank you Foreigners!
