The European Union has just introduced a new Travel to Europe mobile app to make travelling smoother for visitors from outside the EU. The app complements the recently launched Entry/Exit System (EES), helping travellers save time at border controls.

What Is the “Travel to Europe” App?
The Travel to Europe app is an official EU tool designed for non-EU nationals who need to register under the new Entry/Exit System (EES). It lets users pre-register their travel details, such as passport information and a facial photo, before they arrive at a border crossing where the EES operates.

Travellers can also complete a short entry conditions questionnaire in advance — something that will be checked by border guards when they arrive.
You can pre-register your journey up to 72 hours before entering or leaving the Schengen Area.
Although it doesn’t replace border control, it helps make the process faster, smoother, and more efficient.
The app is available to non-EU travellers who are required to go through EES registration and hold a biometric passport.
Using it is completely optional, but it can save you time when entering or leaving the EU.
Before you use the app, make sure that the country you are travelling to supports the Travel to Europe app, as not all EU states have implemented it yet.
How Does It Work?
- Download the app from the App Store or Google Play.
- Create a new journey by selecting the EU country you’ll enter or leave (no earlier than 72 hours before your trip).
- Choose your border crossing point and estimated arrival time.
- Scan your passport — both the personal data page and its electronic chip.
- Take a selfie to confirm your identity.
- Answer a few questions about your travel plans.
- (Optional) Add co-travellers following the same steps.
- Submit your journey and wait for confirmation.
- Once you arrive at the border, simply follow the officer’s instructions — your data will already be in the system.

It’s a great idea and anything that could smooth my wife’s passage through passport control at Vaclav Havel is to be welcomed. Currently the app is established for entry/exit to Sweden but doubtless more Schengen countries will come on stream in due course.
Hi Alun,
thank you very much for your comment! We’re glad to hear that the app could be useful for your wife when travelling through passport control at Václav Havel Airport.
You’re right — at the moment, the Travel to Europe app is not yet supported in all Schengen countries. Early implementation is available for travel to/from Sweden, and more member states are expected to join progressively as the Entry/Exit System rolls out across Europe. We recommend keeping an eye on the official EU website for updates. 🙂
Have a wonderful day!
