5 vegan-friendly restaurants in Brno

For a vegetarian, coming to the Czech Republic might be seen as a nightmare when it comes to food! Indeed, the Czech gastronomy is mainly composed of meat: pork, beef, rabbit, poultry… you name it, it’s probably on the menu of the finest restaurant! But don’t fear to be sentenced to eat salad for the rest of your stay, Brno has some nice places to eat if you follow vegetarian or vegan diet.

This pub (yep, it’s no restaurant, expect a pub-like atmosphere!) offers a various range of options: vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, lactose-free… Anything you need according to your diet restrictions. They have a daily offer of three different meals with soup and also serve free water with fruits. They also prepare typical Czech meals the vegan way, so you can try a goulash without issue! The bar offers a nice selection of Czech beers from micro breweries. If you don’t like beer, they also serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, this spot is actually listed as a juice bar too. The place host live music nights from time to time! They accept cash only!

Bonus: The menus are available in English, the place has a children’s corner, it provides wifi and has a separate smoke-free room! The staff is also friendly 🙂

Rebio is a chain restaurant which has four different locations in Brno. They are self-serve restaurants so you can choose your own quantity and you pay by weight. They mostly use organic products. The places are totally vegetarian but the vegan options are limited (ingredients are listed though, so you have to pay attention of the label!). Price range is moderate.

Bonus: There is a children’s corner, they provide wifi and there are four locations in town!

Where is it?

Rebio Orli: Orli 26, Brno

Rebio Park: Edisonova 1, Brno

Rebio Velky Spalicek: Mecova 2, Brno

There are some more vegan/vegetarian places in Brno but we wanted to share with you our favorite ones! You can also check this cool Happy Cow website to see the other vegan restaurants available in town and read the reviews of customers!

Now, if you are worried about the supermarket food, if it’s vegan or not and you have no clue about the labeling, we suggest that you use the app “Is it vegan?” (android this way) which could make your life easier! Simply scan the bar code of the item  and the app will break down the different ingredients and a meter will point out if towards the red (non vegan) or green (totally vegan).

How the 'is it vegan?' app works.
