If you’re planning to stay in the Czech Republic long-term, you might have heard about the new special long-term residence permit. But before you start filling out any applications, there’s one important thing to know – the government has not yet finalized the rules. So, everything we know so far is still preliminary.
However, let’s take a look at what the process is expected to look like!
How to Register Your Interest in the Special Long-Term Residence Permit for Ukrainians
The most important news first – registering your interest in the special long-term residence permit is not mandatory. However, if you want to be part of this program, you’ll be able to sign up online via the Foreigners’ Information Portal from April 1 to April 30, 2025.
To register, you’ll need a user account and to log in using electronic identification. If you’re applying for your children as well, you’ll need to do it yourself (as their legal guardian).
What if you’re applying as a family? Spouses and their minor children must express their interest together as part of a shared household. This means that one adult family member will need to create a household in the system and invite the other members.
Tip: Make sure to decide in advance who in your family will be the “main” applicant!
What Are the Financial Requirements?
According to the government’s draft plan, you’ll need to prove that you’re financially self-sufficient. This means that your annual income for 2024 should be at least CZK 440,000. If you live in a shared household with other people, this amount will increase by CZK 110,000 per additional person (both mandatory and non-mandatory).
Other Conditions You’ll Need to Meet
To be eligible for the special long-term residence permit, you must:
✔ Have a valid travel document at the time of biometric data collection and when receiving your permit.
✔ Have resided continuously in the Czech Republic for at least two years as of March 31, 2025.
✔ Be registered in public health insurance as of that date.
✔ Not be receiving humanitarian aid during the designated period.
What Will the Process Look Like?
April 1 – April 30, 2025 – Online registration of interest
May – August 2025 – Evaluation of eligibility
September 1 – December 31, 2025 – Electronic registration
Personal visit to the office – Biometric data collection
Issuance and collection of the residence permit
It’s still unclear whether any changes will be made to the process, but as soon as everything is officially confirmed, we’ll keep you updated!
