Pilsen Is Buzzing: The Ultimate May–June Events Roundup

With spring waking up, warmer weather arriving, and longer evenings ahead, Pilsen is suddenly full of exciting events of all kinds. Because we don’t want you to miss out on anything, we’ve put together a packed guide to what’s happening in May and June.

MUSIC EVENTS

The first section is all about music. Early May kicks things off with something for punk fans – Pilsen Punk Open Air Fest at Bílý Medvěd on May 2.

On May 16, you can enjoy Harmony Vibes at the brewery, featuring several DJs and a relaxed sunset atmosphere. Rock fans can look forward to Rock in Plzeň on May 29, followed the next day by the multi-genre Třemfest in Záluží near Pilsen.

The first weekend of June (June 5–7) traditionally belongs to Metalfest, one of the city’s biggest music events. At the end of June, the Pilsen amphitheatre will host three evenings of a new production of Mamma Mia!. And to close out the month, Alice Cooper will perform at the ice stadium.

FOOD and DRINK EVENTS

The next section is all about food and drink experiences. Mid-May (May 16–17) traditionally belongs to the Fresh Festival, held in the park behind the Plaza shopping center, offering a wide range of flavors from both local and international cuisine, along with plenty of creative culinary experiments.

On May 16, you can also visit Šumivý Máj in Lobezský Park, where—accompanied by live music from Imagine Diamonds or Ocho Rios—you can enjoy samples of sparkling, semi-sparkling, and still wines.

The following weekend (May 23) shifts focus to beer, with Pivobraní na Jedničce taking place at the Raven brewery, where you’ll be able to taste beers from many local breweries.

In mid-June, the spotlight returns to wine with the popular Vinná stezka kolem Boleváku on June 13, combining wine tasting with a scenic walk around the pond Bolevák.

SPORT EVENTS

On May 23, a major cycling event, the Aimtec Open Race, kicks off near St. George’s Church, offering several routes to choose from—whether you’re riding solo or with family.

On May 31, Pilsen will host the Czech U21 Speedway Championship, bringing fast-paced racing action to the city.

Another sporting highlight is the Fanatik Challenge on June 20. It’s not a race, but rather a personal cycling challenge—pick your own route, enjoy the ride, and make it back safely.

If you enjoy running, on June 21 you can take part in the Run Tour event by choosing from several race routes, cheering on the runners, or supporting your little ones in the children’s races.

OTHER EVENTS

Some events don’t really fit into any of these categories. One of them is Slovanské prameny, taking place on May 17 at Božkov Island. Its goal is to showcase the development of Slavic culture and highlight the connection between Czech and Ukrainian traditions. During the afternoon, you can watch performances, join workshops and creative activities, explore a small market, or simply enjoy a picnic in nature.

Another unique event is CO.CON on June 6 at DEPO2015. This festival celebrates fantasy and sci-fi, but also board games, PC gaming, comics, and cosplay—making it a great pick for fans of geek culture.

This weekend, June 4–6, you can head to the ČEZfest in Šafaříkovy Sady with the whole family. This family-friendly festival will feature a screening of the film The Invincibles, live performances by Monkey Business and Tata Bojs, as well as various sports activities that visitors can try for themselves. Integrated Rescue System units will also have interactive presentations and booths at the festival.

Another upcoming event is the annual International Folklore Festival Plzeň. The festival will take place from June 10–14 on the main stage “U Branky” in Plzeň. On Wednesday, June 10, visitors can also enjoy festival performances in Konstantinovy Lázně.

Of course, we can’t forget the Liberation Festival —you can read more about it here.

We believe you’ll find something in our guide that’s just right for you—or maybe we’ll see you at our MeetUp on May 14 at Osteria from 7:00 PM.

I am a person who enjoys the little pleasures of life - baking fragrant goodies for my loved ones, a good cup of coffee, walking my dog and going to the theatre in Pilsen. I like a relaxed atmosphere and I believe that everything can be solved calmly, with a kind attitude and if possible with a smile.
