Since we just got back to our offices and study rooms after Christmas holidays, it\u2019s time to become aware of public holidays that we have in the Czech Republic this year because it\u2019s nice to be productive but we all need to look forward to the days when we can relax or be vacationing, right? \ud83d\ude42<\/strong> <\/p>\n

2017 brings 250 working days<\/strong> (two less than in 2016) and six long weekends<\/strong>. 3 of 13 public holidays fall on a weekend day: New Year\u2019s Eve, Independent Czechoslovak State Day<\/em> and Christmas Ev<\/em>e.<\/p>\n

If you plan on trips or vacation you can take advantage of two public holidays in May \u2013 1st and 8th, both Mondays. Those who want to have some days off at the beginning of summer holiday can count on the first week in July \u2013 there are only three working days in that week.<\/p>\n

Employees will enjoy four days off in a row in mid-April on Easter<\/em>, as well as in December on Christmas<\/em>. There is also one extended weekend in November (Struggle for Freedom and Democracy Day<\/em>) and celebrations of the end of the year might last for three days \u2013 till Monday, January 1st, 2018.<\/p>\n

Keep in mind the new law which has come into force: stores with more than 200 square metres size must be closed on 7 public holidays<\/strong> \u2013 New Year\u2019s Eve, Easter Monday, May 8th, September 28th, December 25th and 26th<\/em>. Only smaller shops, pharmacies, fuel stations stores, airplanes, stations, and hospital will be open on these days if you need to get any of their goods.<\/p>\n

September 28th \u2013 St. Wenceslas Day\/Czech Statehood Day (Thursday)<\/em><\/p>\n

October 28th – Independent Czechoslovak State Day (Saturday)<\/em><\/p>\n

November 17th – Struggle for Freedom and Democracy Day (Friday) <\/em><\/p>\n

December 24th \u2013 Christmas Eve (Sunday)<\/em><\/p>\n
