Winter in Brno

Things to do in Brno in the Winter

The cold months have arrived in the Czech Republic, and that means its time to put on our hats and gloves and see what Brno has to offer for the winter season.

Although winter tends to give many of us “seasonal depression,” Brno has a variety of activities to keep us smiling during the short days and long nights of winter.

Ice Skating

I love Ice Skating, its always an adrenaline rush trying not to fall, avoiding the breaks in the ice, and other people on the rink

There are a few ice skating rinks in Brno that make for cheap and fun entertainment during the winter season.

Other Suggestions

Brno Zoo – The zoo is open all year around. During the winter months of November to February it is only open from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm. Get bundled up and go see the animals in their winter habitats.

Kuřim, Czech Republic – Go check out Kuřim. It is located just 13 km northwest of Brno, and is home to some great sights. The best part about Kurim for wintertime is their large wellness center where you can do indoor rock climbing, swimming, fitness activities, etc.

Sledding – purchase a toboggan (sled) or use a plastic lid, bag, or some other creative items from the flat, and find a snow covered hill for some cheap but great fun!

Museums- Perhaps you havent made it to the museums that intrigue you, or during the warmer months you decided to save your crowns for some pivos on the terraces. Winter is the perfect time to go inside and explore the museums and galleries of Brno.

  • Anthorpos Pavilion – displays research of prof. Karl Absolon showing the evolution of man, and prehistoric animals like the mammoths. (Pisárecká 5)
  • Capuchin Monastery and Vault(Klaster kapucinu) – This is the place on the top of my to see list. It sounds fascinating and creeeeeepy. From what I understand it is a crypt where the skeletal remains of the Capuchin monks lay on display. Mummies and corpse that have been spectacularly perserved. Sounds interesting 😀 (Kapucinske nam. 5)
  • The Technical Museum in Brno – Often said to be a must see in Brno. With lots of exhibits, including hands on activities. If you have any interest in technology from cars and steam engines to bikes and planes and more, the museum offers exhibits for all interest. (Technické muzeum v Brně
    Purkyňova 105)
