MOI Office Doesn’t Longer Make Copies of Certain Documents

Time goes by and there is hardly a year without bureaucracy changes in the Czech Republic. Sum of regular payments we have to do, law issues, immigration processes. 2020 is no different. Starting January 1st, the MOI office no longer makes copies of certain documents. However, these changes may differ from office to office.

When you’re not Czech and come to begin a new life adventure in the Czech Republic, the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic (MOI) is going to be one of your best friends for quite a long time, or at least it’s supposed to be!

There’s a total of 14 MOI offices all around the country and you will need to contact one of them if you wish to submit your visa extension, residence permit, etc,…

MOI makes copies of birth & marriage certificates

Right now, if you visit MOI’s website, in the “Useful Information” section you’ll be able to find on top of the important notices a warning, announcing that the “practice of making copies of presented documents has changed since January 1st, 2020.” After that you can find a pdf document, in 5 languages, warning you about this new rule that the MOI office will no longer be making copies of your documents other than birth certificates, marriage certificates, IDs, etc,…

According to the document, which is available in Czech, Ukrainian, Mongolian and Vietnamese. “this new procedure is being introduced to comply with the principle of cost efficiency”.

If you know Foreigners, you also know that we have a wide variety of services for you, including immigration services. Based on our recent experience of helping expats at the MOI office:

  • the office in Prague specifically keeps every document besides the originals of Czech birth, marriage and death certificates. They also keep a certified copy of translated marriage certificates
  • at the Pilsen office, they keep a certified copy of translated marriage certificates.
  • so far, we have not confirmed if the copy of health insurance or rental contract is enough for the MOI office to keep in your folder
New rule has been put in running at MOI offices
The new rule has been put in running at MOI offices

Since this new rule is still very recent, it’s normal that they are still improving it, therefore each office may have different practices. Even though this is happening, there’s no need to worry about it, as you always have us by your side.
