Indian Restaurants in Brno

Brno is a lucky city since there are many places serving delicious Indian food. When I moved to Brno earlier this year, I didn’t know that and I was looking for an Indian restaurant that would remind me of home and meals I love. One of my German friends told me that in Brno there are more than a dozen Indian restaurants. I was surprised because Brno is a very small city. He also told me that people here really like to eat vegetarian food. Being a traveller and big-time foodie, I decided to try three Indian restaurants here in Brno and give you a tip for some more. Have a look at what I have discovered!

 

1. PADAGALI

This restaurant is situated on Kotlářská 51a, 602 00 Brno-střed-Veveří. According to their website, they have experienced native chefs. I went there during lunch hours. Their lunch hours are from 11 to 15. I ordered Padagali Special Mix Thali As I wanted to try most of the dishes I could. Padagali Special Mix Thali comes with three dishes on a split plate – all three dishes from the menu of that specific day. I tried Chicken Tikka Masala,  Butter Chicken and Chole (Chickpeas curry) with a combination of rice and naan. I must say my colleague was not wrong, it was really good, fine amount of spice, and colouring. Other than that Butter chicken and Chole (Chickpeas curry)  had almost the same taste. Being an Indian and a foodie I couldn’t find much difference in the species. Other than that, the restaurant has a good ambience with Indian music. 

Cost for one: Padagali Special Mix Thali – 129,– CZK and for one dish is 99,– CZK. Prices are not that expensive here.

2. INDIA THALI 

Situated on tř. Kpt. Jaroše 1932/13, 602 00 Brno-střed-Černá Pole, India Thali (UPDATED on October 6th: the link was removed – website not found) also serves a special lunch menu, just as many restaurants here in Brno and the Czech Republic overall. What I like about this restaurant is that they have a buffet menu. You can eat as much as you want. Every day they have something different on the menu and soup. Dishes I liked the most were Achari Chicken, Aloo Shimla Mirch, and Dal Tarka. Excellent taste. India Thali has both outdoor and indoor seating areas, there is always Bollywood music being played.

3. ANNAPURNA

You will smell this restaurant when walking by the shopping centre Letmo to the Brno centre 🙂 The restaurant is located on Josefská 427/14, 602 00 Brno-střed-Brno-město. Annapurna (UPDATED on August 28th: the link was removed – website not found) serves both Indian and Nepali cuisine. As soon as I entered the restaurant, I could smell the taste of Indian spice there. My colleague and I went there on a working day and ordered the lunch menu (UPDATED on August 28th: the link was removed – website not found), that day it was Dal/Chicken soup, Chicken Curry, Chicken Tikka, Alurajma Vindaloo and Paneer Palak. You can also order Mix Thali there. All dishes come with rice and naan. I must admit I really liked the food. Each dish had different spice and taste, unlike other restaurants using one spice for all the dishes. The food was just perfect, the ambience was also fine. t was very crowded, though, I didn’t expect it to be this crowded. Therefore, I would suggest you book your tablet before visiting just in case. Last but not least, they have Saunf (sugar-coated fennel) which actually works as a mouth freshener and also helps in the digestion of food faster. In India, almost every restaurant offers these after a meal.
