As we advised previously, even the EU citizens who don’t need any legal permit to stay in the Czech Republic long term should have a temporary residence certificate. For practical reasons. One of them has shown right now. With the Czech Republic being in the state of emergency because of the coronavirus pandemic, there are precautions applied to any foreign nationals living in the Czech Republic, including foreigners from EU countries.

My wife has also worked here since September 2019 and also holds working papers for two years , our son is a student also in Brno, where we are. I need information, how can we get a permanent residence in the Czech Republic or become a citizen of the Czech Republic.

  11. Good day. My name is Mehriban, from Azerbaijan. My husband and I came to Europe in 29. 11. 2015. We entered to Czech republic first and from here to Sweden. Until 11.10. 2017 we lived there. Because of Dublin case, Czech government returned us Czech. From 11.10.2017 till now we live here and left nowhere. Wait for resident permit. We lived in Havirov expat camp only 15 days. Then with the help of friends we moved to Prague. Lived and worked ourselves, not depending on migration financially. How can you help us? Thanks and best regards.

    1. Hello Mehriban,

thank you very much for reaching out to us and for the detailed information you’ve given us! Since you and your husband live in Prague I recommend that you get in touch with my wonderful colleagues at our Prague office – they will be able to help you with your situation 🙂

  12. Hi..Iam holding short term business visa for Czech Republic which is valid until 12th July 2020. I have my shop in Brno and rental accommodation in Brno but because of covid 19 I had to leave. Now I want to come come back to Brno to restart my business but Iam not sure when will they allow us? Do I have to go for quarantine once I enter CR? Please I need your help and advice. Thanks.

    1. Hi Chandrasen,

when you come back to the Czech Republic, you will have to undergo the mandatory quarantine. As for restarting businesses: It is, unfortunately, still unclear when this will be even possible to happen. However, we share all the new information presented by our government on this blog so once we know more, you’ll find it here 🙂

      Best regards,

      Anna

  13. I applied for a temporary residence as a family member of Czech citizen on 9/9/2020

How long does it take to get it ?
Can I leave the European Union and come back when it’s ready ?
    Thank you

    1. Hi Mike,

it can take from a couple of months to a couple of weeks to get it. It differs from case to case. As for leaving the European Union, I don’t think it is possible, however, I am not 100% sure. The best thing you can do to get more detailed answers is to send an email with your questions to info@foreigners.cz – my colleagues who specialize in this will reply as soon as possible.

      Kind regards,

      Anna

  14. Hello I am ruby, I just wanted to ask if how can my niece come back and live in CR again. She was born 2005 but they move when she was 5 yrs. Old and live in Indonesia, but she visited CR last 2019, can she still indeed entitled for the permanent residence or can re-activate it? Thank you for the response.

    1. Hi Ruby!
Thank you for this question! The condition for permanent residence is that the person stays here for 5 years continually. However, I’m not sure if it counts if it was back in 2005. I personally don’t think so. But this question is a little too advanced for my knowledge, so I’d recommend that you email us at info@foreigners.cz and ask our immigration specialists to make sure. I’m sure they’ll give you the answer!

      Best,
      Tereza
