Important information
Non-EU nationals are required by law to have a long-term or permanent residence permit to be allowed to be issued the driving licence. This application is for free and we will gladly assist you, just bear in mind that it takes time to process it. You cannot be issued a driving license sooner than 6 months after the confirmation of residence permit issue date. But don’t worry – you can use the time to study properly 🙂
According the new law, EU citizens do not have to be holder of temporary residence permit but they need to submit document which shows their family or personal ties to the Czech Republic in order to issue driving license. It means, submit documents such as confirmation of studies, contract of accomodation, agreement of ownership property in the Czech Republic, trade license etc.

However, the normal residence of a person whose occupational ties are in a different place from his personal ties and who consequently lives in turn in different places situated in two or more Member States shall be regarded as being the place of his personal ties, provided that such person returns there regularly. This last condition need not be met where the person is living in a Member State in order to carry out a task of a definite duration. The license has to be made of paper or plastic. For plastic driving licenses, the 54 x 86 mm format should be applied. Their colour should be pink.

is there an age limit for driving a car in the Czech Republic?
Hi Karl,
yes, there is an age limit for driving cars here in the Czech Republic. For most types of vehicles, the limit is 18 years. There are some exceptions, however, if you want to drive a normal car and not a truck (for example), these exceptions do not have to concern you 🙂
Kind regards,
Anna
