Coronavirus in the Czech Republic: The Entire Country Quarantined from Monday 16, 2020

Stay home, people. The Czech government announced a ban from movement in the territory of the Czech Republic as one of the precautions to fight the coronavirus pandemic that has been spreading across Europe. From 0:00 AM, Monday, March 16 to 6.00 AM March 24, individuals are allowed to go only to their office, the place where they run their business or freelance.

There are exceptions from the national-wide quarantine:

  • necessary travels to your family or close ones
  • securing basic needs, such as groceries, medicine or hygiene products, pet food, errands related to fundamental bank or post services, drawing fuel
  • visits to medical facilities as a patient or accompaniment
  • for people who provide security, medical, social, public transport, and delivery services

The purpose of the quarantine is to minimize people to people contact. Violation of the ban would be subject to fines up to 3 million CZK. The Czech Republic is the fourth European country after Italy, Spain, and Austria applying the ban on people’s movement.

Czech Republic quarantined
During the national-wide quarantine, people are allowed to travel to work.

Many Czech companies, as well as smaller businesses, have decided on home-office work anyway in order to keep their employees healthy so we all can get back to normal as soon as possible. Most of the freelancers have been working from home before the ban already, teachers give online lessons, sport studios stream free lectures and so on.

You can walk your dog or go to a park

Dog owners are allowed to walk their dogs – for the necessary time while being responsible and avoiding getting close to other people. Also, if you want to go for example for a short walk in the park it is alright. Just follow the rules and stay away from other people.

We recommend checking your health insurance status in case you need medical treatment.

The activities of the Ministry of Interior office are now limited but they keep on running. In case you need a temporary residence permit certificate to be able to return to the Czech Republic from abroad let us know and we will assist you with no need to meet in person!
