Taxi services in Prague

Taking a taxi in Prague maybe is the easiest but for sure not the cheapest way to getting around the city. Especially when you are foreigner who has already arrived to Prague. But there are also some alternatives to use, like Liftago or Uber. Have a look what Prague is offering despite of almost perfect public transport!

Be aware of taxi drivers

Unfortunately, Prague is known from fraudations, extortions or violent attacs commited by taxi drivers more than any other city.

Reasons for this is that there were too many licenses issued and almost no regulation of their activities. However the final straw appears to have broken the camel’s back. One passenger objected to being charger 8,000 CZK (250 USD) for a ride of about 3 kilometres and the City Hall had to step in with a solution. The deregulation of rates from October 15, 1996 had been cancelled and instead the strict guidelines were introduced.

The most common way of cheating tourists is extra charging, so whenever getting a taxicab, ask the driver in advance the approximative price of the ride and pay attention that the driver sets the taxi meter to zero when starting the car.

Despite the problems that sometimes occur, taxis remain the most comfortable way to travel and if you negotiate your journey in advance and take in mind the night extra charges you don’t have to worry about anything.

Uber  – have you heard about it?

Uber can be your alternative from taxi (http://bit.ly/1FQDhYl)

Uber is an on-demand car service that allows you to request private drivers through applications for iPhone and Android devices. The service utilizes dispatch software to send the nearest driver to your location. Don’t be fooled into thinking this is some sort of shared ride or cab service – Uber will send you a taxi-style car. The service provides a no-cash-payment solution that charges your ride directly to the credit card on file with your account.

Liftago –  how it works?

liftago
Liftago’s traction in Prague is very similar to Uber (http://bit.ly/1LHCAcb)

Liftago is a succesfull Czech start-up which creates an open marketplace for urban transportation. In contrast to most of its competitors, Liftago is building the marketplace on top of existing taxi infrastructure. This way, the young company aims to create the most value for passengers, drivers, dispatch companies as well as for travel operators and cities.

Instead of building a new costly infrastructure like Uber, Liftago utilizes the quality part of existing drivers who are already on the market (10% of all Prague drivers are registered at Liftago).

Individual drivers as well as dispatch companies offer their free capacity and passengers choose from offers of best drivers nearby – based on their price, car and ratings or previous customers.

Interesting fact: Liftago’s traction in Prague is very similar to Uber when it started in San Francisco (20-30,000 rides in first 6 months after launch).

Liftago application you can download here.

  1. I am now boycotting all taxis in Prague, after being cheated by all the companies. Tick Tack, with GPS, drove around saying they couldn’t find the address and finally charged 720 /Kc. When I called the company to complain, they claimed the driver said I had changed the address–but I had it on a business card and showed it to him at the beginning.

When you ask at the beginning of a ride, they will not give you an estimate, saying they don’t know how congested the traffic will be.

I got in one taxi with luggage, to go from JZP to just off Namesti Miru and he took a right on Washingtonova and was heading out of town before I started yelling. And none carry credit card terminals, even though I tell the dispatcher I want to pay by credit card, so one guy drove me to an ATM, waited and then charged for it.He said his terminal had been “stolen.” Fuck them all. The Commies made whores out of Czechs,
who sell out their integrity and honor to the highest bidder.

  3. Hello friend, thanks for your blog. I like it. This is really interesting take on the concept. I am really thankful to you for providing this unique information. Please keep sharing more and more information about Cab taxi

  4. Hello foreigners,
the best taxi option in these days in Prague are Uber or Liftago. Does not matter which one (use what do you like more), but only using these apps can help whole business to improve customer service. In my point of view, some taxi companies are frozen in past. Be aware of taxis on airport and the streets in the city center (Parizska, Staromestske namesti) and always ask for estimation plus always want your receipt!

If you want, you can use my promo code for Liftago (VACLAV6838) and you can get 300 Kč (~11 Euros) for first ride or UBER (57wqque) and get some extra credit for first ride as well.

    Welcome in Prague!

  5. This article is about Cab Services. Thank you for sharing nice information. MakeMyCab provides Online Cab Services in Bhubaneswar which provide Taxi Booking, Car Hiring in Major cities of India. Just Visit our Website or download our App.

  6. I like the idea of having an app installed for local taxis. I am not a big fan of UBER though as in many cities their drivers are not professionals and properly licensed.

  7. I traveled with UBER but i found some drivers are not professionals in this .

  8. If you wanna save your precious time than UBER is best for you.. Its my opinion

  9. Amazing blog it was helpful for me. Thanks for the post.

  10. Excellent information for the rider, I had this good experience when I was there. I took the Airport Taxi at Prague Airport and was an Excellent all round service, our flight was slightly delayed, the drivers were there waiting for us (always provide them your flight number), cars were good, clean and tidy, mini van + car, drivers were polite and helpful. Price was reasonable for 9 of us in 2 vehicles, we gave a generous tip because the reliable service is well worth it. Return trip in rush hour had us back to the airport on time. We’ll definitely use again on our next visit.

  11. Congratulations and Happy Birthday BT!

I’ve been really digging your writing style and the way you tackle issues. I think it helps that you’re an Aussie with that same laid back attitude, also helps me relate more to what you’re saying.

I really liked your quick little podcasts, would love some more of those, maybe with interviews or something similar. So many podcasts these days are so chocked with fluff and filler I can’t be bothered listening.

I’d also love to see you do some videos.

Congrats again and keep up the good work!

  12. In my opinion, since I am driving my own taxi. Uber and other App transport business are not affecting my business. I develop my own regular clients, and yeah there are huge demands for taxi service that we don’t have to worry for anything. It’s a healthy competition on transport business.

  13. Great article. It’s very easy to produce poow quality content and drown out the value of your higher quality works. Before hitting publish,it might be a good idea to ask yourself if you’d come back to a random site with this particular article, or if you’d even click on another post.

  14. I love the graphics on this article. The content is also spot on. I’ve got around 40 posts on my site and sometimes I’m at a complete standstill for ideas on good content. Normally, it hits me when I’m watching tv, listening to music, having a conversation with an old friend I haven’t seen for a while. Great post.

  15. I am very thankful for the effort put on by you, to help us, Thank you so much for the post it is very helpful, keep posting such type of articles.

  16. NEVER TAKE TAXI IN PRAGUE! You will be ripped off like I was. Besides fixed meter, the crooked conned me to believe that I gave him 200 crones, when in fact I realized later that I gave him 1000. Short ride cost me $40 instead of $4. If you need airport transfer, use welccomepickuups.com. Within city, use Uber, Taxify of Liftago. Avoid taxi at all costs – you’ll thank me later.

  18. I got in one taxi with luggage, to go from JZP to just off Namesti Miru and he took a right on Washingtonova and was heading out of town before I started yelling. At this time i find out that channel which is really affordable with different facilities during the trip.

  19. Here i will say thank to author who shared some traveling channels like uber and lifetago etc. that is really famous in these days. thanks again for share knowledge.

  20. I feel really happy to have seen your webpage and look forward to so many more. Helpful and Informative blog. Thanks for sharing these information with us.
