Cannabis in Prague

The legal status of marijuana is a matter that a foreigner may wonder about after arriving in Prague. It’s not difficult to find several mini-markets displaying the marijuana logo on their doors and shop windows when walking around the city.

The Czech Republic is still getting a grasp on its medical marijuana law passed in early 2013. Czech citizens are allowed to grow up to five plants or be in possession of certain amounts of cannabis without fear of being criminally prosecuted.

Is Prague the “New Amsterdam”?

No, marijuana is by no means legal in Prague. Nevertheless, weed-related goods are available and easy to buy in town.

There are several shops selling marijuana-flavored snacks and drink (over 200). Hence, you can legally buy cannabis in different shapes, such as alcohol with or without seeds, cakes, chocolate or lollipops, although is difficult to assess the THC amount infused in the product.

Marijuana is well known for reducing nausea symptoms during chemotherapy, improving the appetite of people with HIV/AIDS, and also decreasing chronic pain and muscle spasms.

When relocating to Czechia, we strongly recommend to avoid dealing with street dealers or use this substance in excessive amounts.
