Autumn Activities you’ll Fall For

Autumn. We all have certain memories that we connect with this very special time of year. The leaves are changing, the air is becoming brisk, and the mushroom-hunting season is in full force. But we start to realize that we don’t have much time before the snow starts to fall. But you may be saying to yourself, “Oh no! I need to take advantage of these last few weeks of nice weather! What can I do?”

Fear not, for I have the answers.

For many Czechs, Autumn is reserved for mushroom picking, beer drinking, and barbecuing. But here are some hand-picked events that we think you will love.

The Velká pardubická is a historic steeplechase that has been taking place every year in Pardubice, the Czech Republic since 1874. The track is about 6.9 km long, and the horses and riders have to clear 31 obstacles before the finish line. This track also boasts one of the most difficult jumps in the world, known as Big Taxi’s Trench, at which the horse must jump over a hedge and a large trench without falling. You don’t want to miss the 124th edition of this race, especially because Jan Faltejsek and his horse Orphee des Blins are trying for their third consecutive victory. The event takes place on Sunday, October 12, 2014.
