Do you enjoy visiting movie theatres but the modern multicinema complexes are not exactly your cup of tea? Art Cinema may be the place you are looking for.
The movie theatre offering sophisticated and artistic program is situated on Cihlářská street, just across the road from the Sborovna restaurant where we sometimes enjoy our regular MeetUps. In mid-May, though, it will undergo a long-time scheduled restoration which shall last till the end of September. Meantime, you can enjoy its film classics and noncommercial art movies in the Distillery – The Social Reactor club right in the centre of Brno on Pekařská street. Art Cinema has been part of the Brno culture since the 1920s. The cinema hall turned into the current look after a reconstruction in 1990. Besides the program on daily basis, festival projections, parades and presentations for students are being held there.
The cinema is foreigners friendly, too. Each month it brings something for English speaking audience. Recently you could have enjoyed the Ponrepo in Art festival projecting old Czech movies with English subtitles or the sci-fi festival Future Gate. The last big event before the upcoming rebuilding is the Harry Potter Marathon when the entire Art Cinema will transform into Hogwarts.
In the original cinema building you can also visit a pleasant café to have a drink or a cup of coffee before or after the movie entertainment.
